We estimate the rate of convergence of products of projections on lines in R. Consider the orbit of a point under any sequence of orthogonal projections on K lines in R. Assume that the sum of the squares of the distances of the consecutive iterates is less than ε. We show that if ε tends to zero, then the diameter of the orbit tends to zero uniformly for all families L of a fixed number K of lines. We relate this result to questions concerning convergence of products of projections on finite families of closed subspaces of l2. Introduction Let K be a fixed natural number and let L be a family of K affine subspaces of R. Let z ∈ R and k1, k2, · · · ∈ {1, 2, . . . , K} be arbitrary. Consider the sequence of projections z1 = Pk1z, zn = Pknzn−1, where Pk denotes the orthogonal projection on the k-th space in L. The orbit {zi} is always bounded according to [ADW], [BGP], and [Me]. In this note we consider an additional constraint on the distances of the consecutive iterates, namely that

Neural Processing of Chemosensory Information from the Locust Ovipositor
1 Abstract Contact chemoreceptors (basiconic sensilla) located on the ovipositor and genital segments of the locust serve to control the chemical features of the substrate before and during oviposition. They occur dispersed and also crowded in fields between mechanosensory exteroceptors sensitive to touch or wind (trichoid and filiform sensilla). The central nervous projections of their four ch...

The problem of utilizing undesirable (bad) outputs in DEA models often need replacing the assumption of free disposability of outputs by weak disposability of outputs. The Kuosmanen technology is the only correct representation of the fully convex technology exhibiting weak disposability of bad and good outputs. Also, there are some specific features of non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA...
متن کاملI-46: Ultrasound Guided Aspiration of Ovarian Cyst
Ultrasonography is the primary imaging tool for a patient considered to have an ovarian cyst. On a sonogram, simple ovarian cysts have a uniformly thin, rounded wall and a unilocular appearance that is either hypoechoic or anechoic. They usually measure 2.5-15 cm in diameter, and posterior acoustic enhancement (a hyperechoic area) may be visible deep to the fluid-filled cyst. Most commonly, the...
متن کاملGeometric Models for the Orientation of High Resolution Optical Satellite Sensors
Images taken by high resolution optical satellite sensors are available with different product levels, starting with the original images over close to original images, improved by the sensor calibration, to projections to a plane with constant object height and orthoimages based on very course digital elevation models (DEMs). All imaging satellites are equipped with satellite positioning system...
متن کاملAttenuation Correction in SPECT during Image Reconstruction using an Inverse Monte Carlo Method: A Simulation Study
Introduction: The main goal of SPECT imaging is to determine activity distribution inside the organs of the body. However, due to photon attenuation, it is almost impossible to do a quantitative study. In this paper, we suggest a mathematical relationship between activity distribution and its corresponding projections using a transfer matrix. Monte Carlo simulation was used to find a precise tr...
